BIO
VHello and thanks for taking the time to visit my site. I'm Gregory Tyrone a Nu Jazz and Jazz House artist/composer/producer based in Charlotte, NC. My journey in music begin for me during my collage age years when I DJ'ed some house parties. Although I grew up in a musical household around two gospel vocalists,(my mom and grandmother) and a host of uncles and aunts involved in various aspects of the music industry from artists and musicians to producers, studio designers and music executives, I didn't have the patience to learn how to play any kind of instrument, but I loved dance music, specifically NYC House Music, garage house, disco, Motown, early classic hip hop and the R&B of the 80's and 90's and I knew how to expertly mix sounds seamlessly, so being a DJ seemed a natural for me. My DJ'ing skills after college found me having a stint at the AM radio station, WUSS AM 1490 in Atlantic City, NJ. Later after I had moved back to NYC, I DJ'ed on the weekends playing at corporate events, house parties and private functions, a gig that spanned some 20 years. In the early 2000's with the advent of the emerging digital music age, I received a gift of a Yamaha PSR series arranger keyboard, and electric bass. I self taught myself how to play both instruments, and added my own played parts along with royalty free house music and jazz samples/loops to create, record and produce my own jazz-house and jazz-hop CD's which I sold and gave away to various people through word of mouth. While I did make a 'few dollars' back in those days, my main priority was to promote my skills and what I cold do, as I had friends and even my own mom amazed at my keyboard/bass playing and composing and arranging skills. Mind you I learned all that I know on my own, with my 'classroom' being some books, DVD's and some YouTube lessons. Back in those days one of the frequent comments I heard was "don't forget about us little people, when you go up to accept your first Grammy."So in late 2006, after setting up a small studio band called "The GMoney Project" I embarked on a major project, to release my first commercially produced and distributed CD of my own style of jazz infused R&B, Hip Hop and House music instrumentals. I released my debut CD 'Just Kickin It' in 2008 with 3 other album releases to follow up in 2009, 2011 and 2017.In the early days I recorded under the name 'GMoney" however in 2017 with the release of my 4th album 'Back For More' I recorded under the name 'Gregory Tyrone'. My music can be found on all the major online music platforms, Apple Music, iTunes, Tidal, Amazon, Spotify and other major online music outlets. While I have fans and music purchasers all over the world, my music, Nu Jazz is still somewhat of a 'niche' genre. Moving forward towards the future 3 of my main goals are to capture a younger, newer generation audience who primarily listen to pop and hip-hop, to get into music licensing for various clients and again set up a studio/performing band.
